Elizabeth Ann Ellis was born in 1878 in Bootle (Liverpool) Lancashire, England, in 6 Ivanhoe Street near the docks.[1] Her parents were Robert Ellis and Elizabeth Ann Williams.
Soon after she was born, her parents moved to Plymouth Charles, Plymouth, Devon. [2]
In 1991 the family was living in Christchurch in Monmouthshire, Wales. As in 1891, the census indicated that her father was not living at home at the time.[3]
The family must have moved to South Africa and then back to England again between 1881 and 1891, because the 1891 census indicates that Elizabeth’s younger brother Joseph was born in Queenstown in the Cape Colony in 1985.
In 1893, she emigrated to South Africa with her mother and two young brothers. It is unclear where her father was at the time.[4]
Elizabeth married George William Richard Smith Cooke at St Mary's Church, Woodstock (Cape) on July 2nd 1898.[5] Elizabeth's father Robert Ellis was a witness to the marriage.
The couple had four children: Adeline (in 1899), Mildred, George and Arthur (all in Cape Province, South Africa).
Elizabeth dieid (aged 83) on 6th July 1962 in Sydney, Australia. [6]
