Biography

When Joseph J. Ellis was born on February 28, 1848, in Georgia, his father, John, was 39 and his mother, Lucinda, was 35. He married Harriet V. Harbin (1850–1900) on November 25, 1875, in Gordon, Georgia.[1] He died on April 27, 1939, in Texas at the age of 91, and was buried in Kaufman, Texas.[2]

[Dallas] Joseph J. Ellis, Confederate veteran of Sterling Price Company, died Thursday at Mesquite. Survived by one son, Love Ellis, Terrell; two daughters, Mrs. Moon and Mrs. T. H. Pitcher, Oregon. Burial Dry Creek Cemetery, Terrell.

J. J. Ellis, 91, father of T. L. Ellis died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. N. Moon in Mesquite Thursday. Burial in Dry Creek Cemetery. He is survived by three children, T. L. Ellis of Terrell, Mrs. T. N. Moon of Mesquite and Mrs. H. E. Pilcher of Oregon. He was born in Georgia February 28, 1849, but had lived in Texas for the past 57 years. He formerly lived near Poetry.
