Private Donald Scott Ellis, 43rd Battalion, (Manitoba Regiment), aka Cameron Highlanders, Canadian Infantry, Service No. 421121, with 9th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Division, was killed in action by shellfire on 31st March 1916 on the Ypres Salient, Battle of the Somme, aged 28 years.
Son of David & Catherine Scott Ellis of 'The Poplars', Fossoway, Rumbling Bridge, Kinrosshire, Scotland. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, near Ypres, Bay 28, Stone R. (There is no record of his burial at Sanctuary Wood Cemetery as inscribed on the gravestone) [1]
