Abigail Ellis, daughter of Gideon Ellis and Anna Clark was born in 1720 in Plymouth Colony. Abigail “Ellece” b. 19, Nov 1720, child of “Gedian” & Ann, his wife, Book 1, p. 63, NEGHS MA vital records, 1620-1850, Plymouth, MA.[1]
Abigail and Edmund Maxham were married about 1741 and they had either eight or nine children together. [2]
In late 1753, accusations of adultery were entered against Abigail Ellis in the Wareham Church. She apparently believed that Lemuel was the child of Dr. Joseph Benson. She was excommunicated thirty years later in July of 1783, after Edward's death.[2]
