Philip was the son of Benjamin Ellis and Elizabeth Tupper of Sandwich, Massachusetts[1] [2] [3] [4]

On November 20, 1771, he married Rebecca Perry, the daughter of Moses Perry and Eleanor Ellis of Sandwich, and then Yarmouth, Nova Scotia[5] [2] [3] [4]. Their children included:

  1. Lois, born October 8, 1772, who married Mr. Stubbs[2] [3] [4]
  2. Eleanor, born May 14, 1774, who married George Brown and Capt. Bootland[2] [3] [4]
  3. Remember, born November 23, 1775, who married Edward Baker, son of Jonathan[2] [4] [3]
  4. Heman, born June 27, 1777[3], who married Catherine, and then married Sarah (long) Buckley, daughter of Jonathan Long and widow of John Buckley, and settled in Providence[2] [4]
  5. Joseph, born March 10, 1779[4], who went to Yarmouth NS in 1787 with his uncle Silas Clements, where he married Ruth Porter, daughter of Nehmeniah and had a large family[2] [3] [4]
  6. Moses, born November 17, 1780[3], who married Betsey Stubbs[2] in Nantucket, and then married Frances Taverner and then married Marguerite Hawks[4]
  7. Watson, born October 21, 1782[2] [3] [4]
  8. Sarah, a twin, born September 21, 1784[3] [4] , who married Benjamin Stubbs[2]
  9. Ann, a twin, born September 21, 1784[2] [3] [4]
  10. Thomas, born July 1, 1787[2] [3] [4]

  12. Philip, born November 17, 1792, who married Ann[2] [3] [4]

Philip Ellis served as a private in the Revolution, but this family's story shows the close ties that existed between Yarmouth settlers and their New England relations. He and Rebecca Ellis emigrated to Yarmouth Nova Scotia in 1792[2], where Philip died April 17, 1831[3]
