Robert Ellis is the child of James Henry Ellis[1] and Jane Ramsay.

Married. At St. Eleanor’s, on the 24th ult., by Archdeacon Read, D.D., Mr. Robert Ellis, of Springfield, Lot 7, to Miss Harriet Rayner, of Township 19. [2]

Children in the PEI Baptismal Index for Robert and Harriet were: Robert Heber (1866); Sarah Jane (1868); Eliza Harriet (1870); Hugh (1872).[3]

In 1876 Robert and his family moved to O'Leary. He purchased four hundred acres of land which constituted the southern half of the village of O'Leary. He was among the first settlers on the O'leary Road. [4][5]

At least two of their daughters, Lorono and Eliza Harriet, died young of diphtheria. [6] In the 1881 census, Robert and Harriet were in Lot 6 with Robert H (14), Hugh (9), Lucinda (7) and Drucie (2). [7]

Harriet died in 1884, leaving two daughters and three sons. Robert married again, to Annie Waite, on May 8, 1885.

In 1891, Robert (56) and Annie (52) were living with two of his children, Hugh A. (17) and Drucie (12); Robert and Annie's children were Garfield 8, Lorena 5, George 3 and Harry, 2. Robert and Annie were living with Lorena, George, Harry, Jessie, Robert and Nelly in 1901.

Robert's gravestone says at age 84, January 24 1912, but a transcription of his obituary was dated 1914. The marriage notice for his daughter Jessie's marriage in 1913 said daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Ellis of O'Leary, not the late Mr. Robert Ellis and Mrs Ellis. He resigned as Postmaster in O'Leary in 1913 [8].[9]

From his first marriage, eldest son R. Heber Ellis died in 1934. [10] [11] Heber was survived by one brother, Allison, a druggist, of Lashburn, Sask.; and one sister, Lucinda, Mrs. Alva Lidstone, Spokane, Wash. One sister, Mrs. Drucie Arbuckle, Portland, Oregon and his brother Garfield of Saskatoon, Sask. predeceased him. Lucinda died in 1964 in Washington State. [12] H. Allison died in 1965. [13]

Half-brothers and sisters who survived Heber Ellis were George, Harry and Robert Ellis, O'Leary; Lorena, Mrs. Emile Gulman [Guhman], Mt. Carmel, Ill.; Jessie, Mrs. Albert Walker, Moncton, N.B., and Nellie, Mrs. John Burns, Kensington. Lorena died 1965; George Washington died 1979;Harry Williams in 1975;Jessie, 1958; Robert, 1972; Nellie, 1966.
