'Roy' Ellis' in 1924 built his first of 4 homes on Gorham Rd. and established "A LeRoy Ellis Contractor & Builder Gorham Rd HarwichPort, Mass tel. 45W" with office solely managed by his wife, Elsie Youngren Ellis. The business was continued by his son "Babe", Arthur LeRoy Ellis Jr, and then to his son Harry Ellis, So Chatham. Here they raised 6 children.

Arthur Leroy Ellis was born on August 21, 1897, in Harwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, the son of Thatcher/Thacher Ellis and Sara E. Bassett.[2]
