Biography

Violet Winifred Ellis was born in 1885, her birth being registered at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in the 1st quarter of that year^[1]. She was the daughter of Henry Ellis and Katherine Selina Thompson.

She was baptised on 11 February 1885 at Christ Church, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

In the 1901 England Census, Violet W Ellis (aged 16) was recorded living with her father Henry Ellis (61) at West Cliff Hall, Priory Road, Bournemouth. Also in the household was 42 year old Governess, Elizabeth E. Hughes.

At the age of 29 she married 43 year old Lt. Col. Charles Frederick Minchin on 23 November 1905 at All Saints' Church, Bournemouth, after Banns^[2].

Her husband Charles was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Indian Army.
