From "The East Kentuckian" A Journal of Genealogy and History, Vol. II, Number IV, March 1972: Pg. 3: Everyone agrees that Asa first came, with his family, to what is now Whitley Co. in 1808. A second indisputable point is that he settled on Clear Fork branch of the Cumberland River. His patent for the land which is still known as "Ellison's Bend" was granted 30 Nov. 1815, (pg. 445, Jillison, "Kentucky Land Grants") and descendants of his live there yet.
