Biography

Mary was born in 1799. Her parents were Adam and Ellen Ellison. She was christened on 15 September 1799 at St Laurence’s Church, Chorley, Lancashire, England.^[1]

John Sutton, a widower, married Mary Ellison on 23 December 1827 at Prescot, Lancashire, England.^[2]

Mary Sutton, age 43, sailed from Liverpool with her husband, John (65) and children Ann (24), Sarah (22), Ellen (21), Mary (19), Alice (16), Peter (13) and Henry (8), on the Elvira Owen, and landed in the United States on 10 April 1853.^[3] Her brother James Ellison (1805-1877) and his family sailed with them.^[4]

Mary passed away on 24 November 1869.^[5]

“Local and Other Matters … DIED suddenly on the 20th of Nov., at the residence of Elder A. F. McDonald , Provo, Mary, relict of the late John Sutton, of Nephi, aged 71 years.” ^[6]
