Biography
Gene was born at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ in 1963 ... Gene's extended family included Step Mother Marion Ellison about 1968, Donella Lawson and Raymond E. Lawson.
Raised in Englewood, NJ; Teaneck, NJ and New York City, NY... Graduated from Dwight Morrow H.S in Englewood, NJ 1981. Attended William Paterson University in the 80s. Served in the US Navy in the 80s through the 90s as a Cryptological Technician... Upon completion of military service Gene has settled in the Washington, DC metro area where he works in the communication industry....
Interested in where the Surnames (Ellison, Walton, Harris, Seawright) of my family came from.... My forefathers did not bring those names from Africa to the Americas...

I noticed a bunch of McKinneys of Georgia in your ancestry. I'm curious if it's any relation to former Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney, who was born in Atlanta. Her father, James Edward "Billy" McKinney, is deceased, but I did not find him in Wikitree.

William Ellison (17901861), an American slave, then a slave owner.
Some mixed-race persons in the South became slave owners, and many who were accepted in the society supported the Confederacy during the Civil War. For example, William Ellison owned 60 slaves.

You may be correct about the Berrian connection. Without a marriage or death certificate for her or one of the children showing her maiden name, it is hard to be sure.
