DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Gene or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Gene:

Dear Gene,

I just created my first Free Space page and added your name to it. It is called "The Night the Stars Fell". This event has been mentioned in a number of the interviews I have read to date from the WPA project. Of course, since I just created it, it is not attached to any profiles yet. Does it look okay to you?

BTW ... can't help but notice your NSG from some of the best-est of days ... Thats FAMILY:)

Hi Gene ... just ran across one of your comments. I'm working on the ONS for >> Space: Ellis Name Study and have been grouping profiles by area. See Category: Ellis Name Study.

Hi Gene, I’ve come up with a few questions, hoping you can help. First, who gets African-American Sticker? Second, there is a recreated manumission belonging to someone on the tree of Gullins-1, not sure who created it, can this be copied for sourcing? Family info becomes important to the family history, but not sure if there will be enough sourcing, just wondering who you would include. Their first family member in North America - referred to as IGBO Hall
posted by v. Wilson
Good deal V! Sorry I'm a little bit late to the dance! Yes, please use the link to source that manumission... We always want to attach source even if we were not the ones that actually one's to put it into the profile... You want to include as many family members as possible. IGBO Hall may been born in Africa and we want to include everyone behind him that we can. Does that make sense? If you have source for a family member and can point to the source please list them.

The "African-American Sticker" can go on any profile that is of African American Heritage... There are other stickers out there, however right now all Slave and Ex-Slave Narratives will them...

Nice to meet you, 2nd cousin 5x removed of wife of brother-in-law of 4th cousin 3x removed!

I noticed a bunch of McKinneys of Georgia in your ancestry. I'm curious if it's any relation to former Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney, who was born in Atlanta. Her father, James Edward "Billy" McKinney, is deceased, but I did not find him in Wikitree.

Things to conciser when you're African-American and your last name is Ellison...

William Ellison (1790–1861), an American slave, then a slave owner.

Some mixed-race persons in the South became slave owners, and many who were accepted in the society supported the Confederacy during the Civil War. For example, William Ellison owned 60 slaves.

Hi Gene

You may be correct about the Berrian connection. Without a marriage or death certificate for her or one of the children showing her maiden name, it is hard to be sure.
