Robert Ellison of Newcastle-upon-Tyne & Hebburn, co. Durham (bp. 02 Feb 1613/4 St. Nicholas, Newcastle-upon-Tyne - d. 12 Jan 1677/8, age 64; bur. St. Nicholas, Newcastle-upon-Tyne 15 Jan 1677/8), was the second son of:[1]

  • Cuthbert Ellison (bp. 31 Jan 1579/80 - d. 1628), Merchant Adventurer of Newcastle-upon-Tyne,[1]
  • and Jane Ile (bur. 23 Mar c. 1618/9? St. Nicholas, Newcastle-upon-Tyne), dau. of Christopher Ile of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.[1]

He seems to be mentioned by Wagner (1964), who asserts that the American immigrant Dr. Robert Ellyson of Maryland and Virginia (fl. 1640-70), had a cousin named Robert, a 'Commonwealth member of Parliament in 1648.'[2]

The Robert of this profile was an MP for Newcastle-upon-Tyne in late 1647 and 1660.

Robert is the first representative of his family. He sat during the Long Parliament but was pardoned by the king.
