Hannah Ells was born on October 22, 1802 in Scots Bay, Kings Co., Nova Scotia, daughter of Samuel Ells (1755–1836) and Amelia Sanford (1764–bef. 1864).

Hannah (23) married Joseph Borden Lyons (25) (born about August 4, 1800 in Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada; son of David Lyons (abt. 1759–1812) and Elizabeth (Ratchford) Lyons (1762–1843)) on February 7, 1826 in Blomidon, Nova Scotia.

Hannah died on December 7, 1873 in Blomidon, Nova Scotia, aged 71.
