Biography

His family moved from Mercer County, Missouri to Klickitat County, Washington in 1902. He was the only one to return to Missouri. He attended college and was a teacher in several Harrison and Mercer County, Missouri schools until leaving to attend medical school to obtain a M.D. degree. He opened practice at the big Pennsylvania/Statler Hotel in New York City. While at the Statler, he treated people from all over the world, and became close friends with many, once they returned to their native land. After a 26 year practice in New York City, he retired, and returned to his North Missouri homeland. He opened an office at Cainsville in Harrison County, an area in need of a doctor. He treated everyone, men, women, and children, many his longtime friends, and family members. After 20 years, he retired for the last time in 1975.

Willard loved genealogy and family history. In the 1950s, he co-authored an Ellsworth Genealogy based on the male descendants of Moses Ellsworth born about 1730. His longtime dream was to revise this genealogy to also include the families of the female descendants and update the earlier material. Through the years he had spent nearly every free hour researching and had an eight foot table with stack after stack of material. Unfortunately, his eyes began to fail and his dream was not fulfilled. He belonged to several medical groups as well as membership in several genealogical and historical societies. He was a member of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution and member of a local chapter in Clark County, Ohio, where his Revolutionary ancestor is buried.

He was first married to Ida Stocklos and they divorced in 1920. He married second Dec. 28, 1946 to Margaret Teresa "Queenie" McQueeney, a registered nurse from New York, and the love of his life, his "Queen." Queenie was his nurse in both his New York City office and office at Cainsville. There were no children of either marriage.

Willard served in World War I, Co. H, 3rd Chemical Bn., Chemical Warfare Service, Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland. He received his B.A. at University of Missouri; M.A. at Columbia University (New York); M.D. at New York University 1927. He interned: Staten Island Hospital, Manhattan Maternity and Bellevue in New York. He is listed in "Who's Who in the East" 1951.

Once practice was closed in Cainsville in 1975, Willard and Queenie retired to Trenton, Grundy County, Missouri, where they lived the remainder of their lives. (lt)
