Joseph was a Friend (Quaker) who attended the Henrico Monthly Meeting in Virginia

Joseph was the son of Robert Ellyson and his wife, Sarah (Crews) Ellyson.

Joseph and Mary Binford declared their intention to marry (the second time the declaration had been made) at the Henrico, Virginia, Monthly Meeting of Friends [Quakers] on 5 May 1744.^[1] The Quaker records identify Joseph as "son of Robert." Mary was "daughter of John."^[2][3]
