I am a very private person and do not do Facebook or any other social media. However, because I am appreciative of the whole concept of Wikitree, my self disclosures are as complete and objective as I can make them for the sake of all progeny and Profile Managers, present and future. When William Bull Elmer, Jr was born on November 6, 1932, in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, USA, his father, William, Sr, was 31 and his mother Hersilia was 21. Bill married four times and had four children by his first wife, Joie Gouwens. At this writing William B Elmer,Jr 16:43, 8 January 2017 (EST), Bill, is 84 and the rest of his story has yet to be written.
Bill was not famous. He was not a surgeon, does not own a palace overlooking Lake Washington, did not invent anything, did not own property near a popular ski area in New Hampshire and did not make any oil deals worth a personal multiple of 10,000,000 dollars. He left it to his closest relatives to accomplish all these things
Bill became a Chemical Engineer (D+average); lead the Purdue University Cheerleaders for two years; had an unfulfilling career with Shell Oil; got a Master's in Counseling Psychology; became a piano teacher; became Controller of Human Life of Washington, a pro-life organization; became a Kennel Manager and a political activist. He finished his career with 13 years as Client specialist at The Good Shepherd Mission, a homeless and life interventionist organization in Huntsville, Walker, Texas, USA. He then got around, belatedly to caring about his roots - genealogy - via Wikitree, the free service that hopes to connect everybody into one big family tree.[1]

Date: 06 NOV 1932
Place: Stoughton, Massachusetts, USA[2][3][5][4]
My Birth Certificate says my parental residence was Allston, MA. This discrepancy is not uncommon in Census records. The probable reason is as a baby in 1932 I moved around from Allston to Stoughton to Newton and my parent grabbed one of these places out of the air as my birth location for the 1940 U.S. Census enumerator. To make matters worse my parents were in the throes of a divorce.

  • The following recounts an error of the Census Enumerator who failed to complete his entry for the next house to 11 Sheffield West. A lone "1" appears in the House Number field which should read "15" for the Orpin household. Residents there were:
Susan Elmer [Orpin]; Age, 3; Birth Year, abt 1937; Gender, Female; Race, White; Birthplace, Massachusetts; Marital Status, Single; Relation to Head of House, Daughter; Attended School or College, No.
Donothy Elmer [Orpin]; Age, 1; Birth Year, abt 1939; Gender, Female; Race, White; Birthplace, Massachusetts; Marital Status, Single; Relation to Head of House, Daughter; Attended School or College, No.
Edner Richmand [Edner Orpin]; Age, 9; Birth Year, abt 1931; Gender, Female; Race, White; Birthplace, Massachusetts; Marital Status, Single; Relation to Head of House, Niece; Attended School or College, Yes; Highest Grade Completed, Elementary school, 4th grade.
Harrelia Richmand [Harrelia Orpin]; Age, 5; Birth Year, abt 1935; Gender, Female; Race, White; Birthplace, Massachusetts; Marital Status, Single; Relation to Head of House, Niece; Attended School or College, Yes; Highest Grade Completed, Elementary school, 1st grade.
This is attested to by William B Elmer, Jr October12, 2016 who lived next door and remembers being stung by wasps under the Orpin porch.
  • the Enumerator also misspelled Hersilia's first name. I felt able to make this correction because she was my motherElmer-1185 23:40, 7 January 2017 (EST)

Hi William,

Welcome to the WikiTree family!

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, which means that all members work together as a single collaborative team. The Honor Code helps keep everything functioning smoothly as we work on one BIG tree.

The initial email from us has links you can use to get started. When you confirm your email address, you'll have an option to volunteer to add information to WikiTree, beginning with tags for your own profile. Tags are surnames, locations, concepts, etc. that you'd like to track.

If you decide to volunteer, a greeter will confirm your membership, and you'll be able to add new profiles to the tree.

P.S. I'm always happy to answer questions.
