Biography

John Elsey was born the 14th of December 1820 in Terra Alta, Virginia. He was the son of Nicholas Elsey and Jane Elizabeth (Wheeler) Elsey.

John Elsey, a prominent farmer who resided about three miles from Terra Alta, died early Monday morning from a complication of ailments, superinduced by the grip. He leaves a wife and four grown children to mourn for him. The funeral occurred on Tuesday afternoon, at the old family burying ground. Mr. Elsey was about 70 years old.

He is buried in the Elsey Farm Cemetery, on Salt Lick, Preston county, WV.
