Biography

John was likely born to Susannah Elston and an unknown father in 1827 in East Halton, Lincolnshire. [1] His Canadian records list his birth year as approximately 1830.[2]

In 1841, John was living in East Halton with John Jackson and family. [3] John's wife Elizabeth Jackson was formerly Elizabeth Elston.

John immigrated in 1852 with family to Galt, Ontario, one concession over from Mary Martin's family, and eventually settled in Morris Township, Huron County, Ontario, where they raised a family. [4] It's not known if he knew Mary Martin's family before arriving in Canada.

Research notes

John's grandson has DNA links to descendants of the Jackson family John was living with in 1841, as well as descendants of Francis and Faith Robinson in East Halton, Lincolnshire.
