Jane Eltonhead

1621 Birth and Parents

Jane was baptized on 23 March 1621/2 at Prescot, Lancashire, England.

Jane was a daughter of Richard Eltonhead and Ann Sutton, daughter of Edward Sutton of Rushton and Spenser in co Staffordshire, who are shown in the Visitation of Lancashire by Richard St. George 1613 (Jane was not yet born).[1]

First Marriage to Robert Moryton

Jane Eltonhead married, as her 1st husband, Robert Moryton or Moryson of Keycoughton, Virginia.[2] (d. ante 1660).[3]

She married first Captain Robert Morrison of York County, Virginia. He died shortly before 25 October 1647 [4]

1649 Second Marriage to Cuthbert Fenwick

Jane Eltonhead married after 01 Aug 1649 (date of prenup), as her 2nd, and as his 2nd, to Cuthbert Fenwick, Gentleman, of St. Mary's and Calveret Counties, Maryland.


Cuthbert Fenwick was a younger son of John Fenwick, Gentleman, of Brenkley, Northumberland. He was baptized at Ponteland, Northumberland 29 Dec 1614.

Steward for Thomas Cornwelys

Cuthbert Fenwick was overseer and steward for Thomas Cornwelys.

1637 Maryland Assembly

He served as a member of the Maryland Assembly 1637/8, 1638/9, 1640, 1641, 1642, 1647-8, 1649, 1650/1651. [4]

1643 Agent

In 1643 he was the proprietary agent to new England. [4]


Cuthbert Fenwick, Gentleman, left a will dated 6 March, 1654/5 [4]

1660 Death and Legacy

Jane wrote her will on November 24, 1660 and was proved on December 12, 1660. She mentioned three sons: Robert, Richard and John Fenwick. She also mentioned Ignatius and Cuthbert Fenwick.[5]

She died at Patuxent, Calvert County, Maryland.[citation needed]

Jane (Eletonhead-2), daughter of Anne (Sutton-814) ... Anne (Sutton-814), baptized Lancashire 17 Nov. 1590. She married about 1607 Richard (Eltonhead-1), son and heir of William Eltonhead, by Anne, daughter of James Bowers. He was baptized at Prescot, Lancashire 6 Jan. 1580/1. They had six sons, and nine daughters. His wife, Anne, was buried 13 July 1654. Richard Eltonhead, Gent., was buried there in 1664.
