Simon Ely, fourth son of Richard Ely and Ruhama Thompson, married, in 1749, Abigail Halsey of Southampton.
Simon was a graduate of Yale College, class of 1745. He studied theology and preached in New Jersey about 1754, and in Chester, Conn., in 1756.
"They had a family of ten children, whose record is very imperfect," writes Mr. Moses S. Beach, Nov. 10, 1885. Their children: —

Calvin Ely was appointed by the Council of Safety Master of Galley and
Elias Lay, Second Lieut. The Galley was an armed vessel, lying at Saybrook, in-
tended for use against the British. [1]
