Parents: William Osmer (Kinne) Emerson 1853? Lockport, NY?

Children:

Bert (Kinne) Emerson. 1877 – 1952,

Daisy (Kinne) Emerson. 1879 - ?

Pearl (Kinne) Emerson Hair. 1881 - ? (m. Mr. Hair)

Timothy (Kinne) Emerson, 1886 - ? (Later adopted by a maternal Aunt, Maria

Freelove (Van Valkenburgh) Utley who was living in Ohio), .

Edwin Townsend (Kinne) Emerson, 1894 -1960

(NOTE: Emerson and Kinne are both used as you can find the family under both names in various genealogical search engines)

The family was originally from Lockport, NY. Both the Kinne and Van Valkenburg families owned prosperous farms in the Lockport/Niagara Falls area of upstate New York.

Osmer and Emma had at least two or three children in Lockport, but Edwin was born in Nebraska and is the only child to be born EMERSON the rest of the children were born as KINNE. They moved west to Omaha, Nebraska probably in the late 1880s. At first the family prospered, until Osmer was injured on the job and became addicted to Laudanum(Tincture of Opium) or Morphine. Although he recovered from the injury, he never completely conquered the addiction to morphine. An embarrassment to his family name and about 1893, he legally changed the name of the family to Emerson and disappeared about 1905 ( abandoned his family ), never to be heard from again. ( All records of the name change and Edwin's birth records were destroyed in 1919 when the County Court House and Jail were burned down)

The family moved to the Northwest about 1910 or 1912 and settled near Everett, Snohomish County, Washington.

Edwin grew up, became a printer, and about 1912 married Gladys Byrd. They had four children;

Edwin Jr. 1914 – 1998

Millicent 1916 – 1964

Betty 1918 – 1970

Van 1920 – 1998

We have a record of Edwin Jr’s children, but most of the other children have separated themselves from Edwin Jr.

About 1927, Edwin and Gladys separated and divorced. The reason was never discussed, but it is suspected there was another woman involved.

In 1928 or 1929, Edwin T. Emerson ran off with a young woman named Rena Dryden. I believe they were married in Reno, Nevada; Fort Collins, Colorado or Phoenix, Arizona. [ Since this was written it has been discovered that Edwin & Rena were married in Reno, Nevada in 1929. ]

Edwin and Rena had six children:

Dawn A. January 1930 – 2008 Loveland, CO

Audrey D. May 1932 – 2000 - San Luis Obispo, CA

Glendel A. (Glen) November 1934 – 2005 Phoenix, AZ

Rena V. September 1936 – Everett, WA

Paul R. September 1937 – Phoenix, AZ

John A November 1944 - Loveland, CO

This family moved nearly every year from its inception until Edwin’s death in 1960, in South gate, California.

As the oldest son and third child of Edwin and Rena Emerson, Glendel attempted to put together a brief family history for this web site. Dawn and Rena are to submit their recollections also.

Glendel A. Emerson September 1999

With the passage of time the following family members contained within this brief history have passed.

Audrey D. Emerson Christian May 1932 - April 2000

Glendel A. Emerson November 1934 - June 2005

Dawn A. Emerson Braden Fellis January 1930 - January 2008

Unfortunately Audrey and Dawn never did write their recollections of the family before they passed away, each of Edwin's children has not given a biology or family history for some reason.

Glen called his nephew, Michael Edwin Braden in the fall of 2004 and asked him to join the existing Family Genealogical Tree and to become his assistant manager for the Emerson Site.

Upon Glen's passing in June 2005, Michael undertook full management of the family site, it was moved from MSN Lifestyles to their alternate group site which closed. It sat in limbo for almost 6 months, until MSN finally released to Michael and moved it to yahoo groups until it closed. We looked for a new Family site home and found one at " groups.io ' until the family site was closed down for the following reasons. Michael has [depending on date] Sevier lung problems and asked the family members for assistance for a full year before closing the family site simply because he cannot do it any longer and no Emerson Family member wishes to be bothered with the family site.

Since Michael has taken over the family genealogical histories and charts and has been able to trace Edwin T's maternal family back to the early Dutch (Netherlands) 1500's, his Paternal family we have traced back to England Michael has traced the Kinne linage back to the early to mid 1400's. Michael is still looking and track each and every lead when he feels he can with his health problems.

Edwin T. has left a long line of descendant's with just over 196 and counting, We have most of them there are still some we have not been able to contact yet.

Edwin Townsend Emerson Born May 16, 1896 Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska. In 1919 there was a race riot, the Omaha City jail and County Court house were burned down taking all the records prior to that date, so there is no records of the family name change from Kinne to Emerson, the divorce of Osmer and Emily Francis or Edwin T. Emerson's Birth Certificate.
