Manuel was born about 1813 in Spain.
He was the father of Civil War author and veteran Captain Luis Fenollosa Emilio of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first regiment in the United States made up entirely of enlisted men of color and lead by commissioned white officers like his son.
A "Manuel Fenollosa" is mentioned as a donor to the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry[2] in his son's book about the regiment, though it seems odd that his own son would list him as Manuel Fenollosa instead of Manuel Emilio. If Fenollosa is his wife's maiden name, perhaps this is instead a brother-in-law or father-in-law.
