Biography
Elizabeth Alice Amelia Sarah was born in Smithfield in 1873 (according to her first marriage certificate); she was the daughter of Johan George Cheere Emmett and Helena Aletta (Blannd) Emmett.
She was 17 years old when she married 33-year-old livestock farmer John William Andrews in Vryheid on 29 May 1890.[1]

They had a daughter named May.
John William died on 26 Aug 1891; the 23-year-old widow then married 27-year-old Johannes Guillaume Steyn on 9 June 1896 in Vryheid. He was a resident of Pietersburg in the ZAR when they married![2]

There were four daughters born of this marriage:
- Vera Elizabeth (Steyn) Chase
- Johanna Petronella (Steyn) Lotter
- Annie Margaret (Steyn) Johnson
- Kathleen Mavourneen (Steyn) Emmett
Elizabeth was living at Bryn Eva, Winterton, Natal in 1948. She was visiting her daughter in Pretoria when she died at 392 Walter Jameson Ave, Sunnyside on 29 October 1948; she was 75 years old.[3][4]
