Daniel Emmett was born c.1766.
Around 1806, Daniel was living in Thorpe, Surrey, and had taken up with Ann Harrison a local woman who already had two illegitmate sons. Daniel and Ann would go on to have ten children.
According to an unverified source, Daniel and his family appear on the Poor Law Overseers accounts for Thorpe, Surrey from 1813 until 1823.
In the 1841 census, Daniel is listed aged 60, and having not been born in Surrey. He was living at Thorpe Lea Cottages with several other individuals. Ann was not living with him.[1]
Daniel died in 1850[2]
Any details about Daniel's early life are unknown. Whilst the 1841 puts his birth at 1781, his death record suggests a date of 1766. No marriage record for Daniel and Ann has ever been found, and it is likely they were in a common law marriage. The 1841 census states Daniel was not born in Surrey. There are several Emmett families in the surrounding area, yet none have a Daniel that fits. Conversly, there are a number of Emmett families around England who have Daniel as a family name. Whilst Daniel has a daughter Phoebe, and there are some Phoebe Emmett's in other families, Phoebe is a family name for the Harrisons. Whilst I have taken a DNA test, and have many links to descendents of Daniel and Ann, I have not yet been able to use my results to break down this brickwall. Until any other evidence surfaces, I can confindentally say that Daniel Emmett's origins are entirely unknown. Emmett-561 11:39, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
