Notes

Franz Endres was born in Lampaden, Germany on June 19, 1785. His parents were Nicholaus Endres and Johannetta Schue.

He came to the United States on June 10, 1852, arriving in New York on the ship "John Stuart" from Liverpool.

In 1855 he was lliving in the town of Berry. According ot the Wisconsin state Census there were 3 male and 1 female members in his household. He was not a property owner as he paid no taxes. Therefore he either etned a house or lived with one of his sons, John or Michael, who owned farms in the Town of Berry. It is unknown who were the 3 male and 1 female persons liste din the state census. IN the U.S. census of 1860, franz was listed as living with his son Peter in the Twon of Springfield and he remained there unti lhe died on June 17, 1864. it is possible he moved in with Peter, when Peter's wife was killed in 1858. Franz Endres is buried at St. martin's cemetery at martinsville, Wisconsin[1]

It appears that Franz Endres was a rich man for his day as measured by the amoutn of land he owned in Ollmuth. It all was sold in th elast few years before he migrated to Wisconsin in 1852. Evidently he shared his money with his children to make it possible for them to buy farms and other property in Wisconsin. In the early 1800's the amount of land owned was measured in mornings. That is a man could farm 2/3 of an acre in one morning. By this standardsm Franz Endres owned about 180 acres of land in Ollmuth. The land he owned was described as meadow, or farm land, or timber land and so forth. Each of these types of land had its own number on the land deed. Also the land was classified as 1,2,3,4 etc. depenidng on the quality of the land[1].

Letter from Mr. Gerd Werhan of Trier-Ruwer, Germany.

"...A certain mr. Alois Jakobs, who llives in Ollmuth, comes to me. This man lives in the house wher eyour ancestors, Franz Endres and Catharina Koltes, lived. Mr. Alois Jakobs tells me, that his grandprents have bought this home by family endres. Farther (further) he said, that his grandfather always said, that in this house had a been a cupboard who contained the names Franz Endres and Catharina Koltes. With the number of the year 1839. The cupboard had been destroyed many years ago. The house had been destroyed too and was build(built) up loater on.
