Biography

Catherine Ann Enfield was born in 1876 in Indiana, the daughter of William Enfield (born 1851) and Catherine Rebecca Woods (b.1847), who married in 1873 in Hackney, Middlesex, England. Catherine Ann married John Wilson H. Baker (1853-1900). They had one child, daughter Winnie (Willie), in 1899. Catherine, widowed in 1900, married Sidney Alvin Metcalf. They had five children, born between 1903 and 1915. Catherine died in 1919 in Houston, Texas.[1]

In 1880, the Enfield family lived on Yauders Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. The family included William Enfield, 29, born in England (parents b. England), who worked in the Department of Gas Works; his wife, Catherine R., 33, born in England (parents b. England); their children, all born in Indiana, William M., 7, in school; Catherine H., 4; and Ruth W., 2.[2]

By 1900, Catherine was widowed from her first husband, John W. H. Baker. They had had two children, one was deceased.

In 1900, the Baker family lived on their rented farm in Dallas County, Texas. The family included Katie Baker, 24, born in May 1876 in Indiana (parents b. England), a widow, who had had two children, one of whom was living, a farmer; her daughter, Belle, 2, born in Texas in Jan. 1898; and three stepchildren, all born in Texas (parents b. TN), Pearl, 19, b. Aug 1881; and twins, Wilson and William, 15, b. July 1885, in school, farm laborers. All members of the household could read and write, except for the baby.[3]

Catherine H. Metcalfe died, aged 42, and is buried at Magnolia Cemetery, Houston, Texas.[4]
