Black Sea Germans
Dietrich Engel was a Black Sea German.

Dietrich Engel was born 26 March 1799 in Donnersberg, Palatinate (German: Pfalz), Département of Mont Tonnerre, France.[1]

Location Notes Starting in 1794, the Palatinate region [in present day Germany], "was occupied by French revolutionary troops. As a result of the Treaty of Campo Formio (1797), the First French Republic annexed the region. In 1798 they introduced a new administrative system with the establishment of departments. Basically, the area of the Palatinate became the Département of Mont Tonnerre." [2]
Notes on his name' Dietrich was also know as Johann Friedrich Engel. This is seen by Christina Engel's birth record, where he is listed as Friedrich Engel. She is listed on the 1835 cenus, below with Dietrich and Catharina Engel. On Catharina Engel's birth record, he is listed as Johann Friedrich Engel and as Dietrich on Catharina's death record.

Dietrich married Katharina Müller/Mueller. [3]
