Hazel was born on July 8, 1902 in Flatrock, Henry County, Ohio. She is the daughter of Charles Engel and Katie Groll.[1]
At the time of the 1910 census she was 8 years old living with her family in Flat Rock, where she was born.[2] In 1920 at the age of 17 she was still in Flat Rock for the census[3] however, by March she would be getting married in Michigan.
Hazel first married Milton Gisler on March 6, 1920 in Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan.[4] It appears as if this marriage ended in a divorce as both Hazel and Milton later married other people.[5]
Hazels second marriage was to Ralph K. Smith on August 5, 1922 in Henry County, Ohio.[6] This marriage would last longer than her first as we see the couple together in both the 1930 and 1940 census' living in Scioto County, Ohio.[7][8]
I have thus far been unable to locate death information for Hazel.
On child Charles Milton, his birth was during the time of Hazels marriage to Milton and his initial birth record thus lists Milton as his father. However, in 1942 Charles requested a new birth record with his mother as a witness in which he then lists Ralph Smith as his father and carries the Smith last name. I'm unsure of the reasoning for this but have included both records for reference.
