Family #17 in the 1775 census.
Christina Elisabeth Engelhard was born in 1768 to Sebastian and Catharina Elisabeth Engelhard. She was born in Grimm, Russia, to parents who were known as Volga Germans. Born in Germany, they immigrated to Denmark as young adults, and a few years later immigrated to Russia.
For more information about her heritage, see Sebastian Engelhard Engelhard-33 and Catharina Elisabeth Graser Graser-67.
Both the first names and surnames have gone through many spelling changes based on where they were living at the time records were created. The Grimm census records spell Catharina as Katarina or Katharina. Elisabeth in German is Elizabeta or Elizabetha in Russia. Sometimes Engelhard is spelled with a T as in Engelhardt. The names used in profiles here on WikiTree are spelled the way they were in the first records I used to document each person.
