Mary English was born on August 29, 1720 in Lebanon, Connecticut.[1] She was the daughter of Richard English and Mary Hinksman. She married Moses Dewey on May 12, 1744 in Lebanon.[2]
In the early 1760s, the family, along with Mary's siblings and their families, migrated to Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. Moses was granted 1000 acres of land on December 31, 1764.[3] Mary and Moses had 8 children - the first six were born in Connecticut, and the last two in Cornwallis.
