Mary (Maria?) Engvall was born on February 26, 1869 in Småland, Sweden. She was the daughter of (unknown first name) Engvall and Johanna Lindström. She immigrated to the US in 1880, aged 20 or 21.
She married August G Backstrom and they had (at least) three children: Esther b. 1894, Elmer b. 1898 and Edna b. 1903.
The family lived on Seventh Street in Des Moines City, Polk, Iowa in 1910.
Children Elmer and Edna are still living with their parents in 1920.
In 1930, son Elmer and his wife and son lives with her and August.[1]
Mary passed away on September 26, 1939 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa, United States.[2] She is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.[3]
Research notes
Son Elmer's name is transcribed as Glenn in 1920 census, but when you know its Elmer its obvious. 1930 census has immigration year 1882.
