Henry A. Enke was born on 27 May 1896 the town of Green in Clay County, Kansas. He had a sister, Mrs. Emma Walker, and two brothers, Frank and Charles Enke, all of Clay County, Kansas.

Henry was a World War I veteran. He registered for the draft, and in January 1918 was classified as Class 1.[1] On 23 February, Henry was sent to Camp Funston as part of Clay County's draft quota. He was a part of approximately 700 Kansas men who were sent.[2] Henry was a Private First Class (PFC) in the 355th Infantry Regiment, of the 89th Infantry Division.
Henry married Luella M. Claassen.
Henry resided at 319 Seventh Street SE in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa, for the last eight years of his life.
Henry passed away on on 16 July 1952 after a brief illness at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. He is buried with his wife Luella at Murdoch-Linwood Cemetery, then called Linwood Cemetery, in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa.
