Fredrick Enke was born in 1846 in Hanover, Germany.[1][2] He is the son of Gottfried Enke. He had two brothers, Hermann and Julius, and a sister Maria.[2]
In September 1860, Frederick was living with his family near the town of Woollam in Third Creek Township of Gasconade County, Missouri. His father Gottfried was a farmer. Fourteen-year-old Frederick and his younger brother Julius were attending school.[2]
