Biography

A John Ennis was christened 9 Sep 1729 at Weston under Penyard, son of John and Mary. He would have been 53 in 1782, so perhaps this is not the same John Ennis that married Ann Smith. NB. Other sources (below) suggest there was a John Enniss born in 1743. However there appears to be no evidence in FamilySearch data for him or his sisters.

____________________________________________________________ JOHN ENNISS 1743 - 1782

The first John Enniss was born about 1743 in Weston under Penyard, Hertfordshire, England to Jonathon and Ann Enniss.

John was the 2nd of 4 children in his family. All of his siblings were girls, Sarah (1746), Elizabeth (1747), and Mary (1749)

He married Ann Smith the daughter of Benjamin and Jane Rudge Smith in about 1768. They were the parents of 4 children, 3 daughters and 1 son. Ann was born 18 June 1769, Jane, 6 Sep 1772, Mary, 21 May 1777 and John, 5 June 1778, all of them born and christened in Weston under Penyard.

The family lived on the property of Lord Ashburton where they tended sheep and farmed.

At the present time (1999) we have no record of his death.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
