rough notes on 1880 U S Census and what it reveals about the the family of James C Davis and Elvira Elizabeth "Ellie" Ennis.

The family, if I have traced them correctly, is in disarray---both James and Elvira are divorced and living apart in 1880--- In the 1880 U S Census there is a James Davis divorced living in Middleton, Lafayette, Missouri and there is Ella E. Davis divorced living in Lexington, Lafayette, Missouri--Elvira is living in Lexington, Lafayette, Missouri with her 3 youngest daughters(Jeannetta, Mary Eliza and Maggie) and earning her living as a seamstress. It looks like the sons have been farmed out to relatives as Claude and Rucker are living with Ella's first cousin, ( the Smiths) ---------3 others I have no knowledge of where they are or if they lived to 1880---George, Barbara, and Anna Davis .

Three of their smallest children are not living with Samuel. B. Stramcke, a gentleman of 65 years of age. I rechecked the 1880 census and the 3 girls had the same family numbers as Ella Ennis, someone who took census did not get Ellie and her 3 daughters on the same page but they were definitely with her ---it states that the girls' father is from Virginia which is correct as one of the marriage certificates states James C. Davis was a gentleman from Virginia and most census for Elvira have her birth state as Kentucky and from their trouble with the Missouri Provost Marshall when James and Elvira first married , she is referred to as Ellie--so Ella E. Davis could be taken as a form of "Ellie".

Several of Elvira's relatives on her mother's side are buried in this cemetery.
