Biography

This man is a complete mystery. From the 1880 Census in Lincoln County, Mississippi we know he was born abt 1832 in North Carolina. There is no clue as to when he actually made it to Mississippi, but it's likely between 1872 and 1875 and from Alabama. His first child was born in Alabama in 1872 and second in Mississippi in 1875. As far as his death, he was alive in the 1880 Census and had a child born in April of 1881. Since there is no 1890 Census to see if he was still living, we don't know if he made it that far. His wife shows as a widow in 1900 census. He was the second husband of his wife. I figure they likely married in Alabama around 1870-71 right before first son was born. There was 2 other children of Louisa that we don't know when they were born or if they were from the 1st husband or from James. They were older than the first known child. It is likely they were his step children.

Research Notes

Through y-dna tests from decendants of James Ennis, we have found out that we were not Ennis at all. We actually are Byrne coming from the O'Byrne of Leinster, Ireland. Somewhere down this line we took on the Ennis surname, but we have not been able to connect.
