OBITUARY [1]: MRS. S. A. SMITH. The death has occurred in a private nursing home at Auckland of another early colonist, Mrs. S. A. Smith, at the age of 84 years. She arrived in New Zealand in 1864 as a girl of 12, after a four months' voyage in the sailing ship Armstrong (Captain Armstrong). She spent part of her early life on the Thames, her father, the late Samuel Ensor, being a mining engineer and hotel proprietor. Together with her late husband, Mr. Alex Smith, formerly well known in Auckland as an elocutionist, she took prominent parts in amateur dramatic performances, mostly for charitable purposes. She is survived by six children, Mr. A. E. Smith, Mr 3. W. Lloyd, Mrs. C. Taylor and Mr. H. V. Smith, all of Auckland, and Mr. L. Smith, of Christchurch, and Mrs. E. Fenton, of Morrinsville.
