Note N302Co. F, 22nd Battalion, otherwise known as the Lunenburg Rebel Artillery or Allen’s Artillery commanded by Capt. Cornelius Tacitus Allen. William died with measles in Richmond April 1862. He was 35 years old. Confederate records say he “died in service.”. 1

"When the Brunswick County, VA Census of was taken, their children William W. 25, Martha J. 28, and David J. 22, were living in the same househ old with Elizabeth Epperson, age 60.".

William W. Epperson (c.1827- April 1862) married Mary A.E. Callis (c.1834) on 30 December 1856 in Brunswick County, Virginia. However, Mary, the daughter of James Michael Callis (1792-1879) and Mary Matthews, may have died before 1860 as she is not mentioned in the census for Brunswick County for that year. Mary was the sister of Confederate veteran Robert Morris Callis. William in 1860 was again living with his sister Martha and his brother David. 1
