Alexander Erskine, 4th Earl of Kellie was baptised on 14 September 1677. He was the son of Alexander Erskine, 3rd Earl of Kellie and Mary Dalzell. He married Lady Anne Lindsay, daughter of Colin Lindsay, 3rd Earl of Balcarres and Lady Jean Carnegie, on 11 June 1699. He died on 8 March 1710 at age 32.
He succeeded as the 4th Viscount of Fentoun [S., 1606] on 14 September 1677. He succeeded as the 4th Baron Erskine of Dirletowne [S., 1604] on 14 September 1677. He succeeded as the 4th Lord Dirletoun [S., 1619] on 14 September 1677. He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Kellie [S., 1619] on 14 September 1677. He succeeded as the 4th Viscount of Fentoun [S., 1619] on 14 September 1677.
