Frances was born in 1840. She moved to Natal, South Africa with her father when he took up the post of Colonial Secretary iin June 1858. She married Michael Henry Gallwey on 22nd August 1861. They lived on Erf 32, Church Street, Pietermaritzburg. After marital difficulties in later years she left South Africa in about 1880 and moved to London and later to the Isle of Wight. In her last years she seems to have suffered from serious senility problems and got into financial difficulties when her generosity was abused, and she died in straitened circumstances in 1914. [1]
