Biography

From Genealogical and Personal History of Western Pennsylvania:

Robert McElwain Erwin, son of James B. and Isabel (McElwain) Erwin, was born in Newville, Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, January 6, 1834, died June 4, 1902.
Mr. Erwin married Ann E. Tracy, born in Sewickley, March 17, 1840, died August 4, 1891. They had children: Kittie B., married William H. White, and resides in Seattle, Washington; Anna May, married Samuel R. Cunningham, and lives in Letonia, Ohio; William Kingsley, died March 29, 1897; Robert McElwain Jr., of further mention ; Edward B., a resident of San Francisco, California ; June T., married N. J. McKeefrey, died May 25, 1908 ; and two who died young.

From History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania:

R. M. Erwin, Sewickley, was born Jan. 6, 1834, near Carlisle, Mifflin township, in the Cumberland valley, Cumberland county, Pa., and is, as near as he knows, one of the eighth generation born in America of Scotch- Irish descent. He is the second child born to James B. and Isabell M. (McElwain) Erwin.
Mr. Erwin married Annecca, daughter of Bruce Tracy, and they have six children: Katie B., Anna M., William K., Robert M., Edward B. and June.
