Sophia Estabrooks was born about 1818 in Vermont, USA, daughter of Sylvester Easterbrook (1790–1859) and Dimmis Prouty Whipple (1792–1871).^[1]

Sophia (17) married Hiram Kittredge Russell (22) (born in 1813 in Rockingham, Windham, Vermont; son of Jeduthan Russell and Rhoda (Hall) Russell) on December 15, 1836 in Rockingham, Windham, Connecticut. Their son was Charles Jeduthan Russell (1837–1907).

In 1850, Sophia (31) Russell was in the household of John B Scofield in Susquehanna village, Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. ^[1]

Sophia (38) married George Mix Cole (30) (born on November 22, 1826 in Vermont, United States; son of Micajah Mix Cole and Clarissa (Martin) Cole) on January 11, 1857 in Beaver Dam, Dodge, Wisconsin, United States.^[2] Their daughter was Clara M. Cole (1861–1904).

In 1860, Sophia (41) was living with her husband, George. ^[3]

In 1880, Sophia (61) was living with her husband, George. ^[4]

Sophia died January 11, 1898 in Pleasanton, Alameda, California, USA, aged 79. ^[5]

Research Notes

Sophia is incorrectly recorded as "Sarah" in the 1870 census. This has sometimes resulted in George Cole's two wives being conflated. Please do not attempt to merge Sophia with her sister, Sarah.
