Private Robert Estep served with Washington County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
Robert Estep is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A037265.

Robert Estep: There were Esteps on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the 1600's and I found them in Montgomery and Frederick counties in the 1790 Census so I suspect that Robert was probably born in Maryland. He shows up in the Washington County PA Militia in 1780 and is mentioned in the county history at about that same time (From Helen R. Woods)

Will written 29 DEC 1829; Probate 22 JUN 1832, Washington Co., PA, lists all children; divides land on Peter's Creek among sons: Nathan, William, Thomas, and James who all sign for their division of the property.

- In the name of God, Amen. I Robert Estep of Peters Township, Washington County, PA-being well stricken in years, but of sound mind and understanding, and considering the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, have thought proper at this time to arrange my temporal concerns. Whereas a bountiful Providence has bestowed on me a portion of worldly goods, more than sufficient for my necessities of my few remaining days; it is my will and pleasure that when my body is committed by Chrisitian burial to its kindred Earth, and my soul returns to God its Maker, that they (my worldly goods) may be disposed of in the following manner. Viz: Imprimis--It is my will and pleasure that my Executors, herein after named as soon as convenient after my decease, should dispose of so much of my property as may be sufficient to pay all my just debts of every discription, including funeral expenses and the Legacies herein after bequeathed to my two Grand Children. Item-- It is my will and pleasure that my beloved children Jamima Daley, Mary Gaston, Nathan Estep, Ruth Potter, John Estep, James Estep, Elizabeth Holmes, Ephraim Estep, Thomas Estep, William Estep, and Joseph Estep, should share equally and alike all my estate, real and personal, remaining after the payment of my just debts, and the Legacies herein after bequeathed to my two Grand Children, Robert Estep and Dorcas Beaty sole surviving representatives of my son Elijah Estep deceased. Subject only to a deduction from their respective shares of whatever may appear charged on my book against them without interest. Item--I do bequeath to my Grand Children aforesaid to the ___ Robert fifty three dollars and thiry three cents and __ the __ Dorcas twenty six Dollars and sisty six cents.__Subject to a deduction of whatever may appear charged in my Book against them. Item--It is my will that my Executors by and with the consent of a majority of the Legacies should choose five disinterested neibours to put a fair valuation on each of the divisions of real property herein after mentioned agreeably to which valuation and my book of entries; the accounts of the legaties with each other are to be adjusted. The valueation not to be higher on account of buildings which may have or may hereafter be made by any of the Legaties, independent of my aid. Item--Those Legaties whose portions of real property hereby assigned shall exceed their equal dividend shall within four years from my decease, pay over to my Executors, their respective surplussages with out interest, for the use of the other Heirs, that all may share equally and alike, in default of which payment their division of real property shall be considered and disposed of as my other real property not specifically appropriated. Item--It is my will and pleasure that my son William should have that portion of my land which lies North of Peters Creek from my Eastern boundry as far West as the big Run betwixt me and my son Nathan, which Run is to be his Western boundary. Item--It is my Will that my son Nathan should have that portion of my land which lies North of Peters Creek and West of the portion assigned to William from the mouth of the big Run up and along the Creek to Thomas' line, thence to Gaston's line, thence Northwesterly to the end of my claim. Item--To my son Thomas, I assign that portion of my land which is included with the following lines--viz:Beginning at a Burr-oak and Wild-Cherry Tree which stand together on the South bank of Peters Creek, one of which is marked with notches on two sides and the other with blazes, and running thence up and along the bank of said Creek, forty feet to a post, thence a straight line South East by South, untill it intersects Rob.__ Jame's line, thence along said line untill it intersects Gaston's line, thence along said Gaston's line to Peters Creek, thence down and along said Creek to the place of beginning. Each of the Legaties to have priveledge to join a Mill dam, the breast of which shall not exceed three and three-fourths feet in height, from the common bed of said Creek, at any place opposite his own ground. Item--It is my will and pleasure that my Daughter Ruth should have one Acre corner of said last described dividion of my land, which she may choose on which shall be erected at the expense of my estate, and put in desent, livable repair a one-story frame house eixteen feet square, which she is to enjoy during her widdowhood--in the event of her marryng again it will all _________________ Item--That portion of my land not particularly assigned after being valued, shall at said valuation be offered to those Heirs, who have no portion of land hereby assigned to them, beginning at the eldest, and allowing frou years for payment of what my be thereby received mor that their equal dividend, but if none of them should be able or willing so to receive it, then my Executors are to sell it for the best price it will bring, making such distribution as that all my Children may in the end share equally and alike, all my estate, real and personal. Item--No one of the Legaties is to cut any timber on any part of the land but such as will be indespensably nesessary for the use of the premises. Item--Coal Banks that are on (my property) may be opened on any part of my land shall be equally free to all my heirs, and to none else. Finalis--I do hereby constitute and appoint Nathan Estep, James Estep, and William Estep to the Executors of this my last Will and Testament, revoking all others. In witness of all which I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th day of December Anno Dommini One thousand eight hundred and twenty nine.
