Biography

Joseph Estes was born on 3 February 1805 in Windham, Maine. His parents were Robert Estes and Dorcas (Chesley) Estes. He married Maria Edwards on 15 June 1834 in Gorham, Maine[1]. They had eight children

1. Martha M., born 19 Jul 1835; married William Jones
2. Albert S., born 21 Feb 1837; killed at the Battle of Manassas in 1862
3. Dana, born 4 Mar 1840; married 1st Louise Reid, 2nd Grace Couse
4. Abba A., born 13 Jun 1842
5. Mary H., born 11 Aug 1844; married E.P. Pennell
6. George H., born 10 Jul 1847; died young
7. Ellen M., born 14 Jun 1849; married Edward Hooper
8. Harriet A., born 12 Aug 1851; married A.P. Ayer [2] [3]

Joseph Estes, 1805-1892, is buried at Eastern Cemetery, Gorham, Maine. Among his family buried there are his wife, and six of their children, Martha M. Jones, Albert S. (a Union soldier, killed at the battle of the second Bull Run), Abba Alfreda (aged 20), George H. (Aged 1), Ellen Maria Hooper, and Harriet Augusta Ayer. [9]
