Biography

James Madison Estes was born on 19 February 1852 in Fulton County, Arkansas. [1] He was the son of James Estes and Rebecca Mouler Nolan. [2]

The father, James, had ded in 1863 during the Civil War. His mother took the children to Iowa for safety because his father was a Union sympathizer.

In 1870, Rebecca and children were living with her married son Calvin. [3]

James married Mary Adaline McCord about 1871.
They had 12 children.

Sharp County Record (newspaper in Ash Flat, Ark)
—Apr 21, 1899 - Center - J.M. Estes and Jesse Ritchie have been canvassing this part of old Sharp in the interest of the McCormick harvest and mowing machine.
—May 26, 1899 - Ash Flat - J.M. Estes says he has about 40 McCormick binders and reapers to put up. Jim is a goer and the man who beats him will have to hustle sure.
—June 16, 1899 - Ash Flat - J.M. Estes put up several Mccormick binders last week.
—Feb 6, 1914 - Ash Flat - Mrs. J.M. Estes of Agnos was trading in town one day this week, her first visit to the town in about a year.
—Mar 20, 1914 - Ash Flat - J.M. Estes, a good citizen of Agnos, was meeting his friends here Saturday.
—Dec 17, 1915 - From Ash Flat - The Masonic lodge at this place elected the following new officers for the ensuing year last Saturday: (list includes) J.M. Estes, Junior Steward.

He passed away on 04 March 1936 in Fulton County, Arkansas.
He was interred in Agnos Cemetery, Agnos, Fulton County, Arkansas.
