Biography

Martha was born in 1836 near Paris, Henry Co, TN.
She was the daughter of Burris Estes and Martha Morris.

Her family moved to Arkansas in 1839 where her father was an early settler of the hill country of north-central Arkansas.

Martha married 1st July 16, 1851 to Capt. Isaac Drury Wilson[1] She was 15, he age 20.
In 1856 her widowed sister Anna Eliza Burris married his brother William Newton Wilson. Wiliam died in 1860.
About 1858 her brother John Calvin Estes married his sister Susan Emily Wilson. John Calvin died in the Civil War in 1864. (Isaac Wilson also died before 1865 in the Civil War)

Martha and Isaac moved to California soon after their marriage. Their first child (William Jasper) was born in California in 1853, then they moved back to Arkansas.
Martha and Isaac had 4-5 children.

In 1860 for some reason they had moved south 250 miles to Ouachita County, Ark. In July 1859 her father (Burris Estes) had bought 40 acres in Ouachita County (but the same day he or his nephew also bought 78 acres in Sharp county in the north).

Isaac died 1863 (either Jan or Nov)[2] in Lawrence County, Arkansas.
Isaac was killed during the Civil War. A quote from a letter by his cousin, Riley Morris in 1866, “Isac Wilson, a son in law of Uncle Baris Estes died in the war...”[3]
There wasn't a battle or skirmish in the area at that time, so he might have been killed by bushwhackers or some others war-related mischief.
He was buried in a Wilson family plot in Ash Flat, Lawrence County, Ark. His stone says "ID Wilson" nearby was another stone with "J J Wilson".

Martha married 2nd by Mar 20, 1866 to Harmon Bailey Clinton. He was a widower with 8 children. Martha had 4 Wilson children. Harmon & Martha had 5 more children together.
They lived in Northern Ark. relatively near her sister Mary Estes Spurlock.
