You merged Ethridge-365 and Etheridge-1142 in error. These are two different men, and their last names are spelled differently. Please refer to 1850 Census: John Ethridge, 29; Mary Ethridge 21; Jarious Ethridge 21; Martha J. Ethridge 4; Levi P. Ethridge 2; Mary Ann E. Ethridge 0. They were living in Cates, Gwinnett County. On Find A Grave memorial 9253887, the marriage date for John and Mary Jane is 24 Nov 1844, no county shown; and I did not find a record in Gwinnett County. His parents are not Shepperd Etheridge and Ginny Hamilton; note spelling of name.

My John Etheridge [Etheridge-1142] married Mary Sharpton on May 16, 1844 {reference Gwinnett County Marriage Records, 1843-1866, Page 12}. The 1850 Census shows: John Ethredge 27; Mary Ethredge 23; Benjamin F. Ethredge 5; Jordan J. Ethredge 4; Martha J. Ethredge 2; Mary S. Ethredge 0. They were living in Bengaul, Gwinnett County. He fought in the Civil War and was with Co I 16th Regiment Georgia Volunteers. He was killed in action, probably in Virginia, on 14 Jul 1862, Find A Grave memorial 127460182.

Based on these facts, I am going to create another profile for my John Etheridge.

Thank you for posting the unmerged match between Ethridge-365 and Etheridge-1142. In spite of their shared birth date and place, they are different men. John Etheridge (Etheridge-1142) died of disease in 1862 in Alabama during the early years of the Civil War. I'm pretty familiar with the line of his wife, Mary J. Sharpton, as her brother is my great, great grandfather. Also Ethridge-365 lived 36 years after Etheridge-1142 died. The profile of Ethridge-365 has a link to his grave site, and it has a notation that he is not to be confused with John Etheridge who died in 1862.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your help with info on my great uncle Cyril Langford? My Ouma was his sister Lilian Gertrude. Do you have any other Langford family info. or contacts? My dad must have had Langford cousins, but I have had no luck finding information on them. We found a letter from my great grandfather Richard Sancreed Langford, in which he mentions “the little house where I was born in Seapoint (Cape Town), but my dad told me that Grandpa Langford came from Ireland. We moved to Canada 30+ years ago, but when we lived in Port Elizabeth, there was a boarding house on Cape Road named Langford Lodge and my dad believed that it had belonged one of his family members. Once again thanks for your help. Sincerely, Lynda van Zyl Good

Hi Paul,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a Pre-1700 Project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants.

It looks like the England Project would be a good fit with the profiles you entered. Adding the tag England will help you get updates about activity for that project.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)
