Thomas Etherington became the largest landholders in Driffield. He married an heiress (Margaret Middlewood of Ebberston in north riding) and later acquired the manor of Ebberston. His two sons, Richard and George were both educated and qualified as lawyers and were both later knighted. He died in 1589 and left a will, two sons and two daughters (Jane and Barbara).
This person was created on 06 January 2010 through the import of gl120368.ged, and is based on information contained in the LDS Ancestral File AFN KKRR-R8. The corrections to that file should note: - Thomas was not knighted, but his two sons George and Richard were; - He was born in Driffield not Whitby; - He died in 1589 and left a will; - His wife was indeed Margaret Middlewood of Ebberston; - The LDS Ancestral file lists his children as Richard, Christopher, George and Oliver. His will names only Richard, George, Jane and Barbara, and it can be assuemd that Christopher & Oliver must belong to another family.
