Thomas Etherington was, according to Ancestral FIle christened in 1631 in Whitby (it was far more likely Kingston Upon Hull - there is no such baptism at Whitby).
He could be the Thomas Etherington who baptised a daughter Triphen on 24 April 1656 at Hedon near Hull. There is a group of family names there closely resembling this line.
He could be the Thomas Etherington who emigrated to the colony of Maine in North American and married Mary Spencer around 1656. Mary Spencer was born at South Berwick about 1634; married Thomas Etherington about 1656; she and her husband died at sea in November, 1664; children in South Berwick : 1. Mary; 2. Patience. This Thomas Etherington was born at Yorkshire, as his probate administration covered lands ar Boston and Yorkshire (source: W. D Spencer "The Maine spencers: A history & Genealogy: 1898 p. 58 on www.archive.org). There are numerous Thomas Etheringtons in Yorkshire, and this link is tentative for further research.
I have no information on Thomas (b 1631 of Hull and it is possible, as a younger son, that he did emigrate.
