George was born at Middleton on the Wolds, 13km SW of Driffield to George, the Vicar of Middleton and Jane his wife. After his father's death in 1646, Jane and her family moved back to Driffield (her late husband's birthplace) to manage their considerable holdings. George was a farmer, possibly at Elsmwell to the west of Driffield. He married Olive Seymer of Acklam in 1662 and they had five son: unnamed (b & d 1663), George (b & d 1664), Ruth (b 1665), George (b 1669) and Nicholas (b 1673 d 1671). George died and was buried at Driffield.
